How the converter stays accurate

Time zone math looks simple until daylight saving time gets involved — the difference between New York and London is usually 5 hours, but for a few weeks each year it becomes 4, because the two switch on different dates. This tool reads your browser’s built-in IANA timezone database, the same one operating systems use, so every conversion reflects the current rules without any lookup tables that could go stale.

Pick a From and To zone and you get live clocks for both, the exact current difference, and a plain sentence stating who is ahead. The swap button flips the direction in one click.

The meeting planner

Drag the slider to any hour in your From zone and see what time that is in the To zone. This answers the real question behind most time zone lookups — "if I schedule the call at 9 AM my time, how bad is it for them?" For the tricky three-way calls, the world clock row below shows New York, London, Tokyo, and Sydney at a glance, plus your own zone.

Why time zones are harder than they look

The world has roughly 38 active UTC offsets, not 24 — India runs on a half hour, Nepal on 45 minutes, and a handful of regions change their rules with little notice. Software teams maintain an entire international database just to keep up. Our guides below cover where this mess came from and how to schedule around it without losing friends.

Frequently asked questions

Does this handle daylight saving time?

Yes, automatically. The tool uses your browser’s IANA timezone database, which encodes every region’s current DST rules. If two zones switch on different dates, the difference shown adjusts for the current moment.

Why do some zones differ by 30 or 45 minutes?

Countries chose offsets that fit their geography and politics. India (UTC+5:30) split the difference between its eastern and western extremes; Nepal (UTC+5:45) aligned to its own meridian. About a third of the world’s offsets are not whole hours.

Is my location or anything else sent to a server?

No. Your own timezone is read locally from your device settings to show the "(you)" clock, and all conversion math runs in your browser.
